SAFETY MEASURES TO PREVENT POISONNG

·      Keep all harmful substances in high, locked areas. Children and confused persons cannot see or reach them.

·      Keep childproof caps on all harmful substances.

·      Store harmful substances according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

·      Make sure all harmful substances are labeled.

·      Do not mix cleaning products.

·      Read labels carefully. Have good lighting.

·      Use products according to the manufacturer's instructions.

·      Keep harmful products in their original containers. Do not store them in food containers.

·      Do not store harmful substances near food.

·      Discard harmful substances that are outdated.

·      Use safety latches on kitchen, bathroom, garage, basement, and workshop cabinets.

·      Keep drugs out of purses, backpacks, briefcases, lug-gage, and other items where children may find them.

·      Family and friends may keep drugs in such places. Keep children away from such items.

·      Never call drugs or vitamins "candy."

·      Keep plants where persons at risk cannot reach them.

·      Teach children not to eat plants and unknown foods. Teach them not to eat leaves, stems, seeds, berries, nuts, or bark.

·      Place poison warning stickers ("Mr. Yuk") on harmful substances.

·      Keep all baby products and diaper-changing supplies out of the child's reach.

·      Do not let children play near walls with chipped paint. The paint may contain lead.

·      Keep emergency numbers by the telephone: poison control center, police, ambulance, hospital, and doctor.

·      Supervise children when visiting family and friends. Look for harmful substances on kitchen counters, kitchen tables, or bathroom counters.
